At Barmen Seafood we expand trout and salmon production to new areas by customizing sea culture equipment for local conditions. Thereby the best precautions can be taken to preserve nature, helping to ensure wildlife will go on as it has for generations.

Salmonids are some of the most efficient farmed animals in the world. 1.15 kg of feed gives 1 kg of salmonid. This is double the efficiency of poultry and pig, and almost seven times more efficient than cattle.

One of the reasons is that salmonids do not have to spend energy on heating their body. They simply have the same body temperature as the water around them.

Space Efficiency

The worlds meat consumption is projected to increase more than 70% by 2050. Yet, 77% of our world’s arable land is utilized for livestock.

1M kg of beef requires 3500 ha of pasture, whereas 1M kg of salmonids require only 1.6 ha of ocean.

If we are going to feed the growing population, we need to utilize the world more efficiently. Salmonids are at the forefront of efficiency.
